To the Editor,

I care about climate change and protecting nature. I also care about clear explanations.

In your response to the 2025 federal budget, you say some investments will “lock Canada into fossil fuels.” That sounds serious. But I am not sure how this lock-in works. What makes it hard to change course later? Is it contracts? Infrastructure costs? Political pressure? Please explain.

You also connect Canadian oil and gas production to rising climate costs. Climate change is driven by global fuel use. If you are saying Canadian extraction adds to those costs in a specific way, it would help to see the steps in that reasoning. Are we talking about Canada’s emissions, exported fuels, or both?

You say nature commitments are now “in limbo.” Which ones? Are programs delayed? Is funding reduced? Are deadlines changing? Clear examples would make this easier to understand.

I believe public debate works best when arguments are clear enough for ordinary citizens to follow. When writing compresses too much, readers are left guessing. That makes thoughtful participation harder.

Strong causes deserve strong reasoning.

Respectfully,

Linda A.
